Although the summer season is winding down, there are still plenty of events in Galveston during the month of September. Don’t think that once Labor Day is gone the island slows down, islanders will tell you, “that is when the real fun begins.”

Labor Day weekend, September 4-6, 2015 is a great time to come enjoy the beach and make your final memories of those dog days of summer. Looking for something out of the ordinary? Stop in at Galveston Island Brewing, 8423 Stewart Road. The can offer you an ice cold pint, a game of corn hole and a tour of Galveston’s up and coming industry. Bring the whole family because they even have a playground and amazing root beer for the kids. If you love craft beer consider the Brewmasters Craft Beer Festival on Sept. 4-6 at Moody Gardens. You’ll have the opportunity to sample a huge variety of craft beers, honestly more than you can muster and enjoy the best that Texas and beyond has to offer.

For those who want to enjoy something low key after a long day at the beach or Schlitterbahn, then pack some lawn chairs, order room-service from your hotel or take out from your favorite Galveston restaurant and make your way to Saengerfest Park, 23rd & Strand, for Movie Nite on The Strand (September 5, 2015). This month’s movie is Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie.

If you are planning to wait out the Labor Day Weekend crowds, then you’ll be thrilled to know that you can see the Beatles or at least The Fab 5 (Beatles Tribute Band) on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. as part of Music Nite on The Strand.

We recommend spending Sunday afternoon, Sept. 13, at The Tremont House for Afternoon Tea. This event is perfect for a mother-daughter trip or girlfriend getaway. Imagine sipping your favorite tea or a glass of champagne, snacking on scones and petit fours and enjoying the elegant sounds of harpist Andrea Fronk. Savor your time together with an overnight stay by booking the Tremont Tea Society package which includes accommodations on Sunday night, tea for two and valet. Rates begin at $196/night. Book at www.thetremonthouse.com. The hotel will begin to take individual reservations for tea service on Sept. 1. Standard tea service is $40/pp or $50 for the addition of your choice of champagne, mimosa or wine. Advance reservations are required and available by calling 409.763.0300.

Fitness fans will find several things to enjoy during the month as well including:
Sept. 20 the Island Girl Triathlon at Moody Gardens. Participate or cheer on the athletes as they compete in a 200-meter swim at Palm Beach, 8-mile bike ride and 2-mile run.
Sept. 25-27 the Galveston Island Wild Texas Shrimp Festival in Downtown Galveston. Purchase tickets in advance for your tasting cups and tickets for Shrimp Gumbo.
Sept. 27 the Galveston Triathlon and Lone Star Sprint. This race attracts more than 1,200 participants from all over the country. If you want to see triathletes compete in a 1.5k swim, 40k bike race and 10k triathlon or a 0.4k swim, 20k bike and 5k run sprint then bring some sunscreen, pack a chair and find a spot to watch.

If you want to stay in the heart of downtown Galveston, book your stay at The Tremont House.
If you want to enjoy of view of the harbor, consider Harbor House Hotel & Marina at Pier 21.
If you want a beachfront hotel with historic ambiance, stay at Hotel Galvez & Spa.
