October Haunted Happenings in Galveston

Galveston Island is widely known for its ghosts. And, as a bonus, during the month of October ghost tours and haunted happenings are stepped up. Here is a list of haunted happenings you can only enjoy in October in Galveston.
 
• Oct. 6, Movie Night on The Strand featuring "Hocus Pocus." Movies are shown at dusk at Saengerfest Park.
• Every October Friday and Saturday, Living Dead Ghost Tour. This tour is available Fridays at 8 p.m. and Saturdays at 6:30 and 8 p.m. This is a driving ghost tour hosted by Galveston Historic Tours.
• Every October Friday and Saturday, Galveston Graveyard Tour. Galveston Historic Tours offers this walking tour of Galveston's oldest cemeteries on Fridays and Saturdays at 9:30 p.m.
• Oct. 6, Haunted Mayfield Manor Investigation led by Lantern Light Tours of Galveston. The investigation begins at 10 p.m.
• Oct. 12, Spirits of the Levy Building, led by Lantern Light Tours of Galveston. The tour begins at 10 p.m.
• Oct. 19, Galveston Historic District Wide Ghost Hunt led by Lantern Light Tours of Galveston. Bring your ghost hunting devices for this ghost hunt which begins at 10 p.m.
• Oct. 19, Ashton Villa Ghost Hunt hosted by Ghosts of Galveston. The Ghost Hunt begins at 11 p.m. Book in advance.
• Oct. 20, First Galveston Vampire Pageant at Sound Bar. The Pageant is produced by Lantern Light Tours of Galveston and benefits the Resource Crisis Center of Galveston County.
• Oct. 26, Michel Menard Home Ghost Hunt hosted by Ghosts of Galveston. This is the oldest surviving home in Galveston and dates to 1838. The Ghost Hunt begins at 11 p.m. Book in advance.
• Oct. 26, 27 & 31, Lanternlight Tour of the 1892 Bishop's Palace. This historic mansion is amazing in the day so I can't imagine what it's like in the evenings. Tours begin at 7, 7:30 and 8 p.m.
• Oct. 26, 27 & 31, Ghost Tours of the 1859 Ashton Villa. This is a real treat as this home is usually not open for public tours. Tours begin at 7 and 8:15 p.m.
• Oct. 26, Phantom of the Opera - Silent film with Rob Landes at the organ at The Grand 1894 Opera House. The movie begins at 8 p.m.
• Oct. 26, 27 & 31, Haunted Submarine and Safe Trick or Treat at Seawolf Park. Tour the haunted USS Cavalla and enjoy the park from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

• Oct. 26 & 27, Costumes and Cocktails at the Toujouse Bar at The Tremont House from 6 to 10 p.m. Wear your best Halloween garb between 6 and 10 p.m. for a chance to win a weekend stay in a luxury suite at the Tremont House. As part of the fun, enjoy live jazz by Trio du Jour and complimentary treats. All guests in costume qualify for the drawing with any purchase.
• Oct. 27, Eighth Annual Mini Monster Bash at Saengerfest Park. From 1 to 4 p.m. enjoy family friendly Halloween fun at Saengerfest Park.
• Oct. 31, Sailor's Superstitions Tour at the 1877 Tall Ship ELISSA. This restored tall ship is sight to be seen and adding the superstitions tour will add to the fun. The tour begins at 2 p.m.
• Oct. 31, From the Graveyards to the Vineyards. Take a guide tour with writer Kathleen Shanahan Maca at Trinity Cemetery followed by wine at the 1866 Carr Mansion. The tour begins at 6 p.m.
 
Other suggestions:
• Tuesdays through Fridays, Ghost Tour and Dinner at Hotel Galvez (NOW SOLD OUT). Sorry, as of October 1, this is already SOLD OUT. Take a 1 1/2 hour ghost tour followed by a three course dinner at this haunted hotel. Friday's tour is only available as part of an overnight package. For reservations, call (409) 765-7721. While this ghost tour and dinner is available monthly, it is only available Fridays and additional weekdays in October. Note: The hotel offers a monthly ghost tour and dinner. Check out website for dates.
• Haunted Mayfield Manor… This year-round haunted house is truly haunted.
• Dash Beardsley's Ghost Tours of Galveston.

For a beach view with history, stay at Hotel Galvez & Spa. The hotel provides a courtesy shuttle to transport hotel guests downtown.
For a stay in The Historic Strand District, book your stay at The Tremont House.
Or if you want to enjoy of view of the harbor, consider Harbor House Hotel & Marina at Pier 21.
