Wedding Tips from Experts

About 3 year(s) ago by GalvTravelGirl
Congratulations! You are getting married; it’s time to do some planning. Hotel Galvez & Spa hosts over 100 weddings a year so we asked the catering sales managers for their expert advice on planning a wedding.
“My advice for brides: #1 establish a budget and stick to it. Understand that the venue and catering is going to absorb most of it. #2. Hire a wedding coordinator. There are so many details that need managing the day of the wedding. The bride and her family should enjoy the day. Let a professional take care of the details.”
Angie Westhoff
“I’d say one of mine would be to consider a Sweetheart table at the Dinner/Reception. This allows the new Mr. & Mrs. to slow things down, just for a bit, and bond emotionally over the beautiful event that has just occurred… and they can commiserate over funny things like ‘Can you believe she said that?’ or ‘What was he thinking wearing that?’ etc., before things get fast and fun at the Reception.”
Gina Hengst
“Have a wedding coordinator! Even if you think you can take care of everything beforehand, it makes your life easier to not have to stress about vendors, timing, ‘forgotten items’ the day of. A good wedding coordinator will help your day run smoothly. Don’t rely on a friend that volunteered but will be dancing the night away instead of worrying about your cake cutting or party favors.”
Claire Cook
“Start early!!! Give yourself the time you need to make the most of your special day. Tell friends and family right away so that you can get a feel for how many to expect, how many want guest rooms, and what budget your family has in mind. This will lower your stress and help you stay on track.”

Hotel Galvez & Spa, which is located on the beachfront, can host weddings of up to 350 guests and offers two ballrooms, the Music Hall and the Terrace Ballroom. The Terrace Ballroom opens up to the Veranda which overlooks the Oleander Garden and pool. Hotel Galvez has three outdoor wedding ceremony venues, its Oleander Garden, Centennial Green and grand entrance lawn. All its wedding space has a view of the Gulf of Mexico.
The Tremont House can host receptions of up to 450 guests in the Tremont Ballroom. The Sam Houston is more popular as an intimate setting. With two properties so close some couples use both venues for their wedding weekend and enjoy the best of what they offer.
