How to have a great time in Galveston and still get the kids squared away.

The crayons are on the shelves, and glue sticks are in bins, it is August and back to school time is here. It is hard to go through a store without seeing some form of school related item.
Parents confronted with the chance to take a vacation or get ready for the next school year may find themselves torn between responsibility and stir crazy children, but not in Galveston.

Bring the family to Galveston during the weekdays; Monday and Tuesday are always great, where you can get amazing deals on rooms at places like the Harbor House Hotel & Marina at Pier 21 or The Tremont House downtown. Rather than the typical weekend rate elevated by the higher demand you will often pay 50% less per night for your get away. You will also find that by staying at a downtown property you avoid the beach rates, but you will still have access to fun, for example guests of the Harbor House and The Tremont House have pool privileges at the Hotel Galvez on the seawall and they will even shuttle you over.

Galveston’s Island Pass offers discounts to twelve attractions with savings of up to 40% on local attractions. Turn a one day stay into a multi-day adventure sure to please the family. Every family needs to go to Railroad Museum or the Galveston Children’s Museum

Artist Boat offers inexpensive guided Kayak tours on a regular basis and will give the family something unique to brag about when they go back to class. Finish the day with a nice walk along the beach and have a sea shell hunt (you can take them home and use them for art projects during the school year).

For dinner on Monday night stop by the downtown Fuddruckers where kids eat for $.99, and relax on the patio while watching tourists wander around. For an added adventure eat on the 3rd story outside deck and watch the Harbor as well. You can also find very reasonable prices at places like Yaga’s or the Black Pearl, local favorites with a relaxing island vibe.

Although no one wants the trip to end remember that there is one more stop along the way, the Tanger Outlet Mall in Texas City where you can find some amazing deals on the items you’ve been saving for. By the time you get home you will have not only had an amazing get away but some of the shopping will be done as well.

If you prefer to stay in Downtown Galveston book a room at The Tremont House.
Or enjoy a harbor view at Harbor House Hotel & Marina at Pier 21.
