I love food. And I love taking pictures of food. Wait – scratch that. I love taking pictures of PRETTY food!! Thankfully, there’s no shortage of amazing food here in Galveston and plenty of Instagram-worthy delights and this is our “sweet tooth” edition!
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day! And Sunflower Café offers up a long list of Instagram-worthy menu items including some hearty hashes and benedicts. Their Bread Pudding French Toast, however, is something to behold! Piled high with fresh fruit, these decadent slices are as delicious as they are beautiful.
Tip: use lots of natural light to bring out the best colors.
Another sweet start to the day is the GIANT cinnamon roll at the Tremont House. Large enough for four, or five, or six – this warm cinnamon treat goes great with a plain old cup of joe or one of the many Starbucks drinks the café has to offer.
Tip: don’t forget about the background! Move the camera around until you find the right angle and don’t be afraid to re-arrange the table to suit your needs!
Another excellent spot to find a whole menus worth of Instagram worthy food is the Gypsy Joynt. Giant sandwiches, beautiful salads and gourmet pizzas, oh my! I always steal bites from my friends’ plates because I order the same thing every time. I can’t help it – “Feet Like Pizzas” is MY kind of pizza. Crispy Crust with an olive oil base and perfectly distributed toppings of mozzarella, spinach, ricotta, grape salsa and toasted seeds – it’s the perfect mix of salty and sweet and buttery!
Tip: try taking your pictures from above to capture an interesting shape or colors.
Ok – so I guess I have another favorite meal of the day: Happy Hour. For those of you that don’t think that’s a meal – you haven’t been to Riondo’s on the Strand. They have an AMAZING happy hour filled with delicious drinks and really tasty small plates. Over the summer, I fell in love with their Fruit and Cheese plate with fresh, peppery arugula paired with my favorite martini – a Lemon Drop.
Tip: capture the mood of the day by squeezing in some of the surrounding area.
And, for an endless menu of beautiful cocktails, DTO (Daquiri Time Out) is an Instagrammer’s heaven! Their creative menu is filled with deliciously stunning concoctions like this one: Love Triangle.
Tip: While natural daylight is best for capturing crisp, vibrant photos – if you find yourself in a dim bar, borrow a friends phone for some extra light.
You'll need to rest up after taking all those great photos so don’t forget to book your room.
