Five Free Tours To Enjoy In Galveston

  • Galveston Ferry, SH 87 – Take the 15-minute ferry ride to Bolivar Peninsula and enjoy the convenience of this free voyage. Tip: Park your car and ride it both ways for a quick excursion.
  • Project S.I.T. (Seawall Interpretive Trail) Benches, benches located on Seawall Blvd. – Artist Boat has enlisted area artists and schools to paint more than 60 benches with scenic and educational topics to beautify benches along the Seawall. Tip: Rent a bike or surrey and make stops at the ones that catch your eye.
  • Tree Sculpture Tour, throughout East End District and beyond – Galveston lost thousands of trees as a result of Hurricane Ike in 2008. Some of the remnants of these trees have been transformed into works of art and are primarily located in the East End Historic District. Download the tour or pick up a brochure from the Galveston Visitors Center for locations. Tip: This is another great tour by bike.
  • Galveston Historical Foundation’s “Make History” App – The free app is pre-loaded with a free Strand walking tour along with other features and is available for iPhone and Android. Search for Galveston Historical Foundation in your app store.
  • Hotel Galvez App – This free app offers a 25-minute history and 20-minute ghost narrated audio tours. Both tours are loaded with historic photos and are fun to use on property or at your leisure. Search your app store for Hotel Galvez. Tip: If you are at the hotel, make sure to venture to the lower level to tour the Hall of History.
