Five things to know about the Galveston Island Beach Revue

Here’s a list of five things to know when planning your weekend.

1. Galveston’s Bathing Beauties Contest began as the “Pageant of Pulchritude” in the summer of 1920 and continued through 1932. This vintage inspired pageant was resurrected in 2009 by Islanders By Choice and now is coordinated by the Galveston Historical Foundation.
2. The Galveston Island Beach Revue presented by Hotel Galvez & Spa begins Friday, May 17 at Hotel Galvez and continues Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Beach Central, 2101 Seawall (across from the hotel).
3. Plan to sport your favorite vintage attire for Friday’s Revue Prevue beginning at 6 p.m. at Hotel Galvez featuring music by Harlem-based jazz singer and bandleader Dandy Wellington. Plus, there’s a special introduction of the 2019 Bathing Beauty contestants at 6:30 p.m.
4. Browse the Hot Rod and Classic Car Show Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. and enjoy live music throughout the day including Dandy Wellington and His Band at 4 p.m.
5. The highlight of the Galveston Island Beach Revue is the Bathing Beauties Contest beginning at 5:15 p.m. See 30 contestants sport their vintage swimwear and compete for top honors.
