Five Things to Know About the Galveston Island Beach Revue

The Galveston Island Beach Revue on May 14-15, 2021, offers vintage-inspired fun with big band music, bathing beauties, and classic hot rod cars.

Here’s a list of five things to know when planning to attend:

  1. Based on Island events from summer seasons past like the Pageant of Pulchritude and Splash Day, the Galveston Island Beach Revue was resurrected into a contemporary two-day, family-friendly event in 2009. The Galveston Island Beach Revue continues to grow each year through events, contestant participation, and attendance and is officially the City of Galveston’s "Kickoff to Summer" event.

  1. All events at the Galveston Island Beach Revue will take place at Beach Central (2101 Seawall), across from Hotel Galvez & Spa. Admission includes a socially distanced pod to enjoy the vintage festivities. You can purchase your tickets here!

  1. Wear your favorite vintage attire for this year’s Revue Prevue on May 14, hosted by Dandy Wellington and his band! The event will feature big band live performances, food trucks, and a special introduction of the 2021 Bathing Beauty contestants.

  1. Car lovers and vintage enthusiasts can’t miss the annual Classic Car Show on May 15, from noon to 5 p.m. Here, you can browse hot rods, rat rods, and vintage trailers while enjoying delicious food and rockabilly music.

  1. Galveston’s Bathing Beauties Contest began as the "Pageant of Pulchritude'' in the summer of 1920 and continued through 1932. This vintage-inspired pageant was resurrected in 2009 by Islander by Choice and is now the can’t-miss highlight of the Revue. See 30 contestants show off their vintage swimwear and compete for top honors.
