Get Excited for the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival

The highly-anticipated Galveston Island Shrimp Festival is just around the corner. From September 24-25, enjoy loads of family fun with fabulous food and drinks—including some of the tastiest Gumbo on the Gulf. It all begins on Friday, September 24 with a Texas-size kick-off party at Saengerfest, featuring a fried shrimp dinner and an open bar with entertainment. The festivities continue on Saturday morning with the Shrimp Scamper 5K Fun Run at Beerfoot Brewery on Seawall Blvd.

At noon, get your gumbo on at the famous Gumbo Stroll. Simply purchase an official tasting cup and groove to live music as you stroll, sample, and savor all the gumbo you can eat from teams of amateur and professional cookers. Tickets are required for the Gumbo Stroll and can be purchased in advance for a discount. Cool off at the Rum Punch Contest, or stop by the Strand Merchant Walk where you can snag a walkabout card. Visit all of the shops and get a stamp from each for a chance to win.

Of course, you won’t want to miss the floats, beads, and family-friendly fun at the Lil’ Shrimps Parade, starting at 3 pm. Finally, at 6 pm, head to the awards ceremony at Saengerfest Park on 23rd and Strand.
