How to Make the Most of the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival

Coming up September 27-28, this highly-anticipated event offers fabulous food and drinks along with loads of family-friendly fun. It all begins on Friday, September 27 with a Texas-size kick-off party at Saengerfest and continues on Saturday morning with the Galveston Island Shrimp Festival Official 5K Fun Run at 28th & Seawall. At noon on Saturday, check out the Rum Punch Contest and the Strand Merchant Walkabout, where you can snag a walkabout card, visit all of the shops, and get a stamp from each for a chance to win.

Get your gumbo on at the Gumbo Stroll. Simply purchase an official tasting cup and groove to live music as you stroll, sample, and savor as much as you like from over 80 different cooks for the next four hours. Also, don’t miss the Lil’ Shrimps Parade at 3:00 p.m., with floats, beads, and fun, before winding up the fest at the Awards Ceremony in Saengerfest Park. To get the most from your visit, book your stay at The Tremont House. Located in the heart of the Strand, this hotel features elegant accommodations and you’ll be mere steps away from all of the events of the shrimp festival. While you’re there, don’t miss a visit to Galveston’s only Rooftop Bar, featuring a fabulous view of downtown and the harbor. Want to stay on the beach? Check into Hotel Galvez & Spa, and don't miss out on their famous Sunday Brunch. Also, we recommend the Harbor House Hotel & Marina for a fabulous view of the Harbor and quick access to all the delights of Pier 21.
